Lift Bridge

A plugin for FieldWorks Language Explorer which permits sharing of LIFT dictionary data with remote colleagues using FLEx or WeSay.

Status¶

Lift Bridge (Windows) is available for download.

Lift Bridge (Linux) is in progress.

Some documentation is available, but it is not complete.

Caveats¶

Lift Bridge will work best with the upcoming beta release of FieldWorks 7.1 (available here soon). FieldWorks 7.1 will have support for sharing: 1) smallish linked photos and audio files, and 2) custom fields and data in them. (There may be other new collaboration features, as well.)

FieldWorks 7.0.4 can also be used with Lift Bridge, provided its lexicon does not have the kinds of specialized needs that are to be supported in the FieldWorks 7.1 beta.

At this point, both Flex and WeSay are being actively developed to bring each into better alignment to be able to collaborate with each other. One part of the alignment that is being as worked on now is the Lift standard itself. As that standard matures, more kinds of data can be shared. Users may not see some data right now that is supported in one of the tools, but not in the other tool.

While the alignment continues, an urgent goal is to not have shared Lift data get lost/eaten by the other tool.

Set up a project on the Language Depot server¶

1. Register a user account.
2. Request that a new project be added to the Language Depot server by sending an email to admin@languagedepot.org with the following information:

I would like to set up an additional project for <Some Language>.

My username: myusername
Project name: <XYZ> Dictionary
ISO-639 code: <MyCode>
